What is the invesment casting

Investment casting, also known as lost wax casting or precision casting, is a manufacturing process that involves the formation of ceramic molds around wax patterns to create molds capable of receiving molten metal. This process utilizes an intricate technique to achieve complex shapes with exceptional surface quality. To create the mold, a wax pattern or a cluster of patterns is repeatedly dipped into ceramic material to build a thick shell. The subsequent de-waxing process is then followed the shell drying process. This results in the production of a wax-less ceramic shell. Molten metals are then poured into the ceramic shell cavities or clusters. Once the metal solidifies and cools, the ceramic shell is broken off to reveal the precision investment casting. Precision investment castings are capable of achieving outstanding dimensional accuracy for both small and large casting parts, regardless of their complexity. This process offers versatility in material selection, accommodating a wide range of metals to meet specific requirements. The advantages of investment casting include the ability to create intricate and detailed parts with tight tolerances, excellent surface finish, and minimal post-casting machining requirements. It is a favored method for manufacturing parts in industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, and more. Overall, investment casting enables the production of high-quality metal components with exceptional accuracy, making it a preferred choice for various applications.
